A Message From MacLellan Bagpipes

For more than three decades, MacLellan Bagpipes has been shaped by hands, heart, and an unwavering commitment to craft. Since day one, every set of pipes leaving our workshop has carried care, patience, and pride earned only through time at the bench.

After many thoughtful conversations with friends, colleagues, and trusted voices across our community, we are preparing for an important transition.

In early January, MacLellan Bagpipes will announce a final order window for Great Highland Bagpipe wood sets. Orders will be accepted through the end of March. Following this period, we will step away from producing new GHB wood sets. Revelation sets and smallpipes will continue for a limited number of years, allowing our work to evolve while honoring what remains possible.

This decision comes from honest realities. Hands grow tired after decades of turning wood. Supplies of suitable timber grow scarcer each year. More than anything, respect for the instrument demands limits rather than compromise. For thirty-two years, nearly 2,500 instruments have passed through this workshop, each one built with care worthy of the music it carries.

Work already underway will continue with full attention and intention. Our bench schedule remains full for roughly two more years, and every instrument in progress will receive the same standard, focus, and pride as always.

Gratitude sits at the center of this moment. Gratitude for musicians who trusted us with their sound. Gratitude for bands, teachers, and pipers across generations. Gratitude for friendships formed through shared respect for tradition, tone, and truth in craftsmanship.

This transition marks neither an ending nor a retreat. It marks a narrowing of focus, a honoring of limits, and a commitment to finish well. More details will follow in January, along with guidance for anyone considering a final GHB wood set order.

Thank you for walking this road with us, for believing in handmade instruments, and for carrying forward music shaped by human hands.
